So Thomas and friends are actually models? Is Sodor just some giant model in Will Ferrell’s basement? Wait, what? I’m not sure I really get this (and neither does the film, because later in the film they ignore it), but Mr Conductor is really small in our world, but normal size on Sodor. He’s small because… but he fits in on Sodor because… Look, everything there is small. Here we meet Mr Conductor, a tiny Alec Baldwin dressed as an ice cream man. None of this makes any sense, even with the whole talking train thing. He calls this a mistake he made, and wants to bring her back to life. He’s apparently keeping her safe from an evil diesel, who made her go too fast. I’m thinking he might not look quite so down if he had a real lady down there. Naturally, Patch quickly goes to visit the apparently suicidal Peter Fonda in his weird cave, and finds that he lives with a train… called Lady. Burnett is actually supposed to be really miserable, as when Patch finds an old picture Burnett drew, no one can imagine him being happy. Either the guy really hated his agent for this film, or he wandered onto set by mistake thinking there would be a bike involved, but either way, it’s impossible to watch him without depression creeping in.Įxcept this is a plot point. Burnett is played by a comatose Peter Fonda. So, we get a wise mysterious Indian with a map of a lost railroad, an annoying kid called Patch who’s trying to find it, and Burnett, the weird old dude who lives in a cave. I’m not kidding.īack at Shining Time, the filler for the Thomas story is giving us a huge dose of exposition, while trying to pretend it’s not. Therefore, we get Diesel being a massive dick, and trying to murder everyone at every opportunity. So, we literally have 85 minutes of filler. Now, for a five minute episode this is probably about as complex a story you can get, but this is a 90 minute movie. Ignoring the Shining Time narrative (which we’ll get back to), the Sodor plot is that Diesel is being a bit of a dick, and Thomas doesn’t like him. Because rather than having to hire British actors for the film, they instead bought a bunch of orphans and had them speak like Niles from Frasier. He just plays Mr Conductor, which means he actually has his own plot, and the engines all speak for themselves. But in this film, Alec Baldwin doesn’t acutally narrate. It’s better than it sounds, if just for it being so damn weird. However, Thomas And The Magic Railroad was made at a time when Alec Baldwin was providing the US narration of the show (after the end of Shining Time Station), so we get him as Mr Conductor. Listen to this dude Mr Conductor, he knows what he’s talking about. No wonder the kids were paying attention to him. While we were stuck with the guy who played Ringo Starr, America got Rufus. Also, and I’m not making this up, George Carlin replaced Ringo Starr in later seasons. It’s actually quite a nice programme, albeit very American, and it ran for most of the 90s.

iVCam is strictly for Windows users and offerd more features for free compared to EpocCam. EpocCam locks most of the features in the paid version, but you can use the app on macOS too. Use Your iPhone as a Webcamīoth iVCam and EpocCam are quite reliable to turn your iPhone into a webcam for video calls over Windows. The free app comes with ads and watermark which you can remove with by paying $10 through in-app purchase. You can use Full HD video output at 60 fps in the free version too. IVCam provides most of the features for free. You can buy the paid version at $8 that bumps the video output to Full HD, allows you to use a flashlight, and removes ads. The free version is limited to 640 x 480 video resolution output. After placing a video call on Google Hangouts, go to Settings, and select either of these apps from the video menu. For Skype, open the app, go to Settings > Audio & Video > Video and set select these apps.ĮpocCam and iVCam also support Google Hangouts on the web. You can set these apps as the default video output on the video calling apps.įor Zoom, open the Windows app, go to Settings > Video > Camera, and set either EpocCam or iVCam as the default camera. Thankfully, both the EpocCam and iVCam support the most software here. With the growing popularity of Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Google Hangouts, you would want to use these apps as the default option on the video conferencing apps. It gets saved on the Windows PC.įrom the iVCam settings menu, you can change the video orientation to portrait, change video resolution, frame rate, enable audio, and even change its quality. You can tap on the camera or video icon at the bottom and capture the ongoing content of the live stream. I like the camera and video capture option. You can switch between the cameras, use flash, change rotation, and even use the enhancer mode for a better live video. It’s a clear UI with icons neatly placed at the top and bottom. IVCam did a better job than EpocCam with the camera viewfinder. Other features include 1080p Full HD video output (In pro mode, more on that later), manual focus on video, dual-camera support with the telephoto camera of the latest iPhones, flashlight support, and more. You can also switch between the front and the rear camera (I recommend using iPhone’s back camera).ĮpocCam also lets you use the iPhone as a microphone for your computer. The default resolution is set at 640 x 480 at 30fps (free version). After a successful connection, you can switch on the camera, extend the video feed UI, and even use flash for the low-light scenario. User Interface and FeaturesĮpocCam offers fairly standard camera UI. Download both the apps on iOS and Windows and use them by connecting to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or a USB cable. IVCam offers the same setup as the EpocCam. You can use opt for the USB data cable to start the live streaming from the iPhone to the Windows EpocCam app. Now, open the app on the iPhone.įor a successful connection, make sure that the iPhone and Windows desktop/laptop are connected to the same network. Go to Windows laptop and search for EpocCam Viewer app and hit enter. With EpocCam, download the app from both the official website and Apple App Store. Setting UpĪs I mentioned earlier, the whole iPhone as a webcam setup is fairly easy with both the apps. And second, these apps will require permission to camera and microphone to function properly, so you must grant those permissions to let them function properly. Note: We urge you to read the privacy policy of such apps and software. One can use the app on iOS or Android and connect it to either Windows or macOS. If you have an Android phone, get this app, connect it to your computer, and use your phone as a webcam.ĮpocCam supports all the major platforms. It works with iOS, and you can connect it only to Windows. Windows users will find themselves at home with the iVCam app. The comparison will cover UI, setup, cross-platform availability, supported third-party apps, price, video resolution, and more. In this post, we will compare EpocCam and iVCam based on various factors. Most Windows laptops come with abysmal webcam quality - you all know how good the iPhone front and the rear camera is, and second setting up these webcam apps is quick and easy. Among several the webcam apps on iOS, iVCam and EpocCam are two of the best apps to use iPhone as a webcam on Windows.Įven if your Windows laptop has a built-in webcam, there are a couple of reasons to use your iPhone as webcam. If your computer doesn’t have one, then you can use your iPhone as a webcam on Windows PC. Also, a good webcam is crucial for video calls. They are either out of stock or cost 2x/3x than the original price. The sudden change in the workflow has spiked the demand for work from home tools and accessories such as webcams, routers, microphones, standing desks, and more. Work from home is the new norm these days. You can use these same tools to simply markup the document. But you can use these same Markup Tools here, click here to add some text, then you can expand it, move it to where you want, type what you want, and fill the form in despite the fact that the PDF isn't built for that. Whoever created this PDF just made it as a form, I guess, that you're supposed to printout and then fill in. Sometimes forms are built where you can't actually fill them in. Once you have signatures you can select one, move it in place, resize it to sign documents. You can create a new signature here using your trackpad, your camera, or your iPhone. Click here and one of the options is Signatures. But if it has got these form fields in there then fill it out in Adobe Reader or using Preview. So this is something that depends on the PDF itself. Now know PDF's have to be built with these forms in there. Just click on the field and type whatever it is you need to type. If it is a form, like this, you'll find you can use Preview to fill it in. You can switch from a continuous scroll mode to a single page mode or even a two-page mode where you can view two pages side-by-side like this. You can even do Bookmarks and Highlights. There's even a Table of Contents mode if the PDF has a Table of Contents. For instance here I can just view this PDF very easily. Preview does all the basic functions you need with a PDF. If you're using macOS you have Preview already. So Preview is an app that is part of the Operating System. So, for instance, if I want to open up a PDF like this one I just double click on it and it opens up in Preview. If you've never installed Adobe Reader in fact it's the default app for opening up a PDF. It's pretty much as capable as Adobe Reader. It comes as part of the Operating System. But in fact you already have a tool on your Mac that can do this. I'm surprised at how many Mac users I come across think that they need Adobe Reader on their Mac to be able to view or fill-out PDF's. But chances are you don't need it at all. Download it and use it to view all your PDF's. It's a free app from Adobe and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. So if you ever need to open up, view, and even fill-out PDF files you may use an app called Adobe Reader to do that. Join us and get exclusive content and course discounts. There you can read more about the Patreon Campaign. MacMost is brought to you thanks to a great group of more than 1000 supporters. There's something better and you already have it. Do you use Adobe Reader on your Mac to view PDF's? Well, you probably don't need it at all. Video Transcript: Hi, this is Gary with. If you look at the (1st slide above), you can see that the 42 mm dial (on the left) has more space in between the sub-dials and the black minute track in comparison to the 38 mm model on the right. One of the most noticeable differences between the two watches is the space in between the sub-dials and the perimeter of the dial. The dial on both El Primeros is silvered with multi-colored subsidiary dials in blue, light gray and dark gray. The dials of the two El Primeros we reviewed are very similar, although there are a few minor differences worth noting. El Primero Chronograph 38 mm on polished wood display box It is really a matter of personal taste as to which size you prefer. The latter is listed on Zenith’s website as a ladies’ model, although, we know that some men prefer the smaller models and it is not even a point worth arguing about. A 42 mm El Primero 36,000 VPH and a 38 mm Zenith El Primero 36,000 VPH Original 1969. 42 mm El Primero 36,000 VPH next to a 38 mm Zenith El Primero 36,000 VPH Original 1969įor this review, we compare not one, but two brand new Zenith El Primero Chronographs. As far as which chronograph was available commercially first, that is a different story as the Caliber 11 did, in fact, go on sale before the El Primero. And they are true to their name “El Primero” which means “The First,” in that regard. So as far as which chronograph was announced first, it was Zenith. However, what we can determine is that Zenith produced one of the first two integrated automatic chronographs ever (as the Caliber 11 is a module-based chronograph), and Zenith publicly announced their self-winding chronograph before anyone else. Zenith El Primero Chronograph 38 mm wristshot To this day, it is disputed as to which of these aforementioned brands launched first. In 1969, three automatic chronographs were introduced: the Zenith El Primero, the Seiko 6139, and the Caliber 11 (produced in partnership with Heuer, Hamilton/Buren, Dubois-Depraz, and Breitling). In fact, it is actually even more confusing, as there are numerous companies who claim to have invented the first (self-winding) chronograph. Needless to say, the history of the chronograph is not a clear-cut subject, and the history of the first automatic chronograph is no less confusing. See product pages for more information. As you may have already read, the longstanding claim that Nicolas Rieussec invented the chronograph has recently been disproven after facts came to light that actually proves Louis Moinet’s invention 5 years earlier (1816) was truly the first chronograph. *Next day delivery available on most items. Priced between $45 and $50 retail, this is a solid entry into the upper-middle tier of American whiskeys. It has a majority Bourbon makeup with the next highest percentage being rye for a mature tasting experience that does not rely on the inherent sweet profile of many bourbons to shape its pallet. The stylish art deco inspired bottle is eye catching and has a pleasantly decorative, yet understated, label. Vital Statistics: This whiskey clocks in at 90 proof. What I will say is that the end result is a smooth, unpretentious whiskey that checks many of the boxes that this reviewer appreciates in a whiskey.īlackened Whiskey (image via Sweet Amber Distilling) Tasting Notes: Blackened Whiskey I am not going to argue with a crafter of Pickerell’s notoriety and obvious talent, but I also will not endorse that what they did was little more than speed up the aging process by shaking the liquid up inside the charred barrel. The music is pumped through a proprietary Black Noise sound system to shake the barrels free of their final flavor infusion before bottling.ĭoes the introduction of sound make a difference? The distiller would say so. It is in this final process that the creative choice to blast the barrels with sound-Metallica’s sound, to be precise-occurs. The mixture is then transferred to black brandy casks for the final aging. He picked a range of bourbons and ryes, predominately the former, from across the United States to blend. Pickerell, at one time the distiller behind WhistlePig, was the master behind Blackened. This induction of Metallica’s vibes is meant to draw out the deeper flavors locked inside the wood by opening up the tight spaces and pores within the charred barrels, elevating the blended whiskey to deeper heights. Moved by the deep-throated rumbles of Metallica’s musical expression, Pickerell made the unique decision that this whiskey would be physically assaulted by the band’s sound during the final aging. Master distiller Dave Pickerell, who passed away in late 2018, was clearly aiming not only for a smooth finish, but also for a thought-provoking tasting experience: he drew so much inspiration from the dynamic depth and emotionally driven songwriting of the band Metallica that he actually collaborated with the band itself on this blend. I was told to taste for this bombastic enrichment of sound as I was handed the bottle of Blackened for my review. The primal nature of sound and the ability to manipulate volume has entranced man ever since the discovery of amplification techniques designed to communicate music over massive distances was made. You know this if you have ever attended an event by any number of touring artists, even lesser-known acts in the smallest of roadside pubs across the continent. The rumble of a stadium stack of subwoofers will shake you to the core. This in no way, per our editorial policies, influenced the final outcome of this review. Expect a long and smooth finish with slightly creamy hints of butterscotch taffy, maple and honey.Editor’s Note: This whiskey was provided to us as a review sample by Sweet Amber Distilling. The flavor builds with notes of honey, cinnamon, allspice, clove and mint, with unexpected apricot lingering underneath. Burnt caramel, oak and honey are present on the nose, with moderate hints of spice upon first taste. The spirit has a warm, honey-amber color. The process the whiskey undergoes is intense the flavor is anything but. Using our proprietary sonic-enhancement system Back Noise™, the whiskey is pummeled by sound, causing it to seep deeper into the barrel, where it picks up additional wood flavor characteristics. The result is an added apricot note that plays perfectly alongside the honey and caramel tones of the pre-finished spirit.Īfter the whiskeys have been combined in the black brandy casks for finishing, they’re jolted back to life by the unmistakable, earth-shattering music of Metallica. For Blackened, Dave chose to finish the whiskey in black brandy casks. By resting the whiskey in the barrel of another spirit during the maturation phase, the whiskey picks up some of the unique, residual flavors left behind in the barrel. Predominately bourbon, the sweetness of Blackened pairs perfectly with the savory spice offered by the high rye composition.ĭave is renown for his whiskey finishes-an aspect he calls “flavoring for adults”. Each of the whiskeys offer unique flavor that play a key role in the final spirit. Blackened is a marriage of the finest bourbons, ryes & whiskeys, hand selected by Dave Pickerell himself. Season 2's tone felt like a huge departure from Season 1. He has more than enough to worry about though, as he and Sebastian now have to contend with a new master-butler pair in Earl Alois Trancy and his butler Claude Faustus. To be fair, Season 1's ending made having a Season 2 practically next to impossible, hence why the latter opens with a "do-over" of sorts where Ciel reawakens with no memories of what happened previously. The second season of Black Butler is completely not canon and, frankly, most fans try not to acknowledge its existence. It seemed like that was the end of Black Butler, leaving fans disappointed - until Season 2 happened and made them desperately wish the anime was just a single-season affair. Since Ciel had finally achieved his revenge, the butler appeared to eat his soul as part of their contract. After Ash/Angela revealed themselves to be an angel and confessed to being responsible for Ciel's parents' death, Sebastian killed the angel. From that point on, everything in Season 1 pointed to a single-season adaptation. This season kept to its source material for the first six episodes or so - then presented filler content and anime-only characters in the form of the demon hound Pluto and the Queen's butler Ash, who has an alternate female form called Angela.ĭespite over half of the season not being from the manga, the anime made a conscious effort to maintain the classic Black Butler tone, but things really started deviating in the last three episodes. Though the premiere expands on the manga's first chapter, taking it in an entirely new direction, it quickly established the story's rather playfully morbid air with the clever and shrewd young Earl of Phantomhive and his highly competent butler Sebastian. Season 1 of Black Butler captured the manga's whimsically dark air, throwing fans into its fantastical Victorian world. But, conversely, it is capable of a whole host of things that even high-end music DAWs wouldn’t be able to entertain. As a result, it simply can’t do certain things that even basic DAWs like Garageband can do. Instead, Adobe accepted there is a difference – even symbolically – between music and audio, and opted to focus on audio. It attempted to jump on that bandwagon in 2007 with the introduction of VSTi support, and MIDI, but soon realised that wasn’t its strength and dropped those features. To sum up Adobe knows Audition isn’t a music DAW. Likewise, as a means of post-production, Audition has superb tools for mixing, mastering and exporting. A case in point would be for producers who rely on samples we had great results recording vinyl into Audition and using its tools and effects to remove artefacts, trim start and end points, and generally tidy and enhance the file before transferring clean, optimised waveforms into Live for use in a more musical way. While it’s hard to see how a music studio would base its entire workflow around Audition – the lack of MIDI support will see to that - you can easily see how it could play a valuable supporting role. It’s in these specialist tools that Audition truly shows its worth. Where Audition has won favour is with podcasters, videographers and content creators Now, you can get rid of it by simply clicking a button. If you’ve ever recorded a vocal and found it has an unwanted echo, you’ll know how frustrating that can be. The most recent version of Audition added a new plugin which can remove unwanted reverberation from an audio file. It’s simple, it works, and it has genuine real-world utility. Then, using this print as a reference, it removes all corresponding frequencies from the rest of the file. You highlight a tiny section at a relatively quiet point in the file, and Audition creates a ‘noise print’. Cleaning background noise like, for example, a low-level hum is so simple. It possesses an arsenal of tools which you simply don’t find – or at least not to the same level – in the music DAWs. The trick perhaps most closely associated with Audition comes in its ability to fix, repair or clean audio files. From here, you have absolute, precise, granular control over the audio. Double-clicking an audio file in the multitrack environment takes you to a separate window, containing only the waveform you have selected. Honestly, this is where the playing field changes significantly. Where things do differ is in what is available to you when you have recorded a piece of audio. Let’s take a deeper look at some of the things Audition can do, some it can’t, and try to establish where it fits in the broader DAW ecosystem.Ĭonnecting external equipment, like audio interfaces or mixers, is the same as it would be in any other DAW, and the actual act of recording itself is no different. Whether that’s through MIDI integration, or simply in their visual stylings or interfaces, whereas Audition is geared more towards a different audience. Live, Bitwig and the others are each designed specifically with music production in mind. Perhaps it comes down to that key word musicality. So why isn’t it more widely used by musicians? Why is that? When is a DAW not a DAW? After all, Audition provides you with a multitrack recording environment, with insanely detailed tools for audio manipulation and enhancement, and still to this day has one of the fastest workflows we’ve come across. Here’s the thing though Adobe Audition allows the user to do many of those same tasks, yet you’d struggle to find anyone who’d include it in a list of popular DAWs. From Ableton Live to Cubase, and from Pro Tools to Bitwig, each offers a broadly similar set of features allowing the recording, manipulation, editing and production of audio into a musical format. We’re all familiar with digital audio workstations ( DAWs). Gradually, over time, new features and functionality have been added to Audition, making it the pro-level audio editing and production tool we see today. Adobe relaunched Cool Edit Pro under its new name, Audition, in 2003 and started incorporating elements designed to make it play nicely with Adobe’s video editing application, Premiere. He had a ready-made replacement title: Chop Suey!. We were, like, ‘It’s our first single from the album, do we want to give the radio a reason not to play it?’” Received wisdom is that that the label strong-armed the band into changing the song’s original title Suicide for fear that radio wouldn’t go near the song. The Motörhead classic, “Ace of Spades,” was next. “Next up we have the song that killed hair metal,” quipped Murphy before the band launched into Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life” already felt operatic before the Rock Orchestra treatment and soared even higher in this version. Singer Sky Murphy joined Fox to duet on Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” before an absolutely ripping version of Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” Lead violinist Ivana Cetkovic displayed some fireworks on her instrument as she moved to the forefront before literal fireworks erupted from the floor. Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” earned some newfound respect after its symphonic overhaul, while Linkin Park’s “Numb” featured the first appearance from singer Erin Fox. (The band’s second set also included “Back in Black” by AC/DC, which played the Stanley in 1977, 19.) The Rock Orchestra hit the stage - with twisting towers of skulls on both sides, a giant moving skull in the middle and four more candle-covered skulls - with AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” with Pittsburgh native Kyle Morgan ripping off a saxophone solo. Dressed all in black with various bone-related shirts or leggings, glittery face masks allowed the focus to remain on the marriage of classical and rock music. The group made its first jaunt to the United States for a brief tour of the Northeast, which concluded Monday with a sold-out show in Pittsburgh.Ĭomprised of seven women and five men, the band covered most musical instrument categories, with string, brass, woodwind and percussion represented. In around 90 minutes, a show presented as the Rock Orchestra by Candlelight took a tour through alternative and classic rock, as well as metal (with both heavy and nu varieties represented). But their songs - albeit in vastly reimagined versions - found new life Monday night at the Benedum Center (formerly known as the Stanley Theatre). It’s been more than 40 years since the likes of AC/DC or Motörhead played the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh. |
